The
Christy (1747) and Skidmore Houses (c. 1750)
In
1986 these two Dutchess County Dutch houses were saved from the
wrecking ball
and restored on five+ acres in one of the loveliest
places in
that county.
Years of the most knowledgeable restoration work
has resulted in a private family compond ot exceptional originality
surrounded by equally appealing landscaping and gardens.
The
restoration of the houses, the Christy House as the main residence,
the Skidmore house as a guest house over a two-car garage, is
of
the finest I have seen in years in the Hudson Valley. Every
effort has been made to preserve original features and surfaces and
painstakingly replicate the few which were missing. The
houses have been furnished beautifully with period antiques
creating an esmeble one can expect of a magazine article. Antiques
which are original to the Christy and Skidmore families are included in
the purchase price. All other antiques will be available for sale to
the buyer.
The property is situated privately on 5.376
acres in a neighborhood of handsome period houses on large
landscaped parcels. Manhattan is just 60 miles by
convenient train.
Call for further information
including pictures, floor plans, history of the houses and the
restoration and gardens.
